To So Few - The Trial

The fourth book of the TO SO FEW series of historical novels.

NOVEL OF Courage by Cap Parlier.  The Trial is the fourth book of Cap Parlier’s To So Few series of historical novels. With the aerial battle exploding in its full viciousness, the leaders of Fighter Command struggle against mounting opposition with rapidly depleting resources. Brian Drummond and his brother’s in arms rise every day with the knowledge it could be their last flight against extraordinarily long odds. Everyone sees the obvious, the only obstacles between the British Isles and near certain domination by the highly successful and ebullient Germans were the Royal Navy and less than 1,000, young, largely untested pilots of Fighter Command. Prime Minister Winston Churchill bears witness to the heroic feats of those few, intrepid, young aviators who stood in the breach during the summer of 1940. Amidst the carnage of the epic battle, Charlotte Palmer – a beautiful, older, war widow – saves Brian’s life, receives the George Cross from King George VI, and becomes very special to ace Pilot Officer Brian Drummond.

REVIEWS

All readers are welcome and encouraged to send along their review of this book – good, bad or ugly.  Cap truly appreciates all constructive criticism.

Peter Gipson [the first review of The Trial]:
"This superb book takes us through a most tense and worrying period of WW2. The Nazi forces are overwhelming the continent with the fearsome thought of invasion sweeping ever closer to England. Here we have episodes of Mr Churchill’s government in London corresponding with Mr Roosevelt’s in Washington interspersed with some desperate aerial warfare as our young American pilot flies his RAF Spitfire against the overwhelming forces of the Luftwaffe during the Battle of Britain. Our American aviator and colleagues are being constantly scrambled against an enemy who endlessly attacks convoys in the English Channel and bombing airfields including their own base. We see the birth of electronic warfare and some outstanding descriptions of ‘dog fights’ and the tactics employed. Here the author has brought his own considerable flying experience to the fore-giving the text both drama with desolation as brave men and friends die. This book has been outstandingly researched, resulting in a well based factual novel of this life-threatening period in modern warfare.
"A good read."
