Cast the First Stone

SINCE SO MANY folks are curious about Cap's first attempt at a novel, he decided to at least recognize the manuscript. The novel was written for the Turner Tomorrow Awards in 1990. While the entry made the finals, it did not win anything. :-(

UNFORTUNATELY, THE PREMISE of the story changed in the summer of 1991 with the dissolution of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. The central theme involved the collaboration of two experimental test pilots -- a Soviet and an American -- to improve relations between the Soviet Union and the United States. The idea grew from Cap's experience with Anatoly Grishchenko, and the questions of what might have happened if Anatoly had survived his radiation-induced leukemia.

SOMEDAY, CAP MAY get around to the major rewrite of the manuscript probably after SACRIFICE has been in print for several years. Until then, the story will remain as little 1's and 0's in Cap's digital files.
